It very much depends on the artwork, as to where it should be sold.
Privately? Is the Art Counsel the right avenue for you?
Through a dealer? Which dealer?
Auction? Which auction house?
What costs are involved for each option?
Particular auction houses have successes with particular artists, or disciplines, or periods. Dealers can sometimes achieve better results for you, but they often take longer due to the quiet nature of the way they approach clients.
What about charges? Dealers and auction houses now end up charging about the same, to sell something for you. Depending on the value of the work and your methods of persuasion with the dealer or auctioneer, the cost to you is between 10-25% of the sale price.
the Art Counsel is independent of dealers of auction houses, and we will happily advise you of the best destination for your artwork.
